PEEK ( Polyether ether ketone )

PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) is a medical-grade polymer increasingly used in dental prosthetics, offering several advantages over traditional materials like chrome cobalt. Here are the key benefits of PEEK in dental applications:

  • Aesthetics: PEEK comes in a natural, non-contrasting color that blends more seamlessly with the patient’s oral environment. This leads to a more natural look compared to metal-based dentures.
  • High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Despite being lightweight, PEEK is remarkably strong. It offers comparable, if not superior, strength to metal dentures while being significantly lighter, making it an effective alternative for prosthetic restorations.
  • Digital Design and Manufacturing: The use of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) in the design and manufacturing of PEEK dental prosthetics enhances accuracy and fit. This digital approach results in restorations with nearly perfect marginal fit and consistent quality.
  • Patient Comfort: PEEK eliminates common discomforts associated with metal dentures, such as metallic taste and sensitivity to temperature changes when eating or drinking. Its flexibility also makes the denture easier to insert and remove, contributing to overall patient comfort.
  • Long-Term Clinical History: PEEK has a proven track record in medical applications, having been used in over 4 million orthopedic implants. This long-term clinical history supports its reliability and safety as a dental material.
  • Stronger Than Metal per Gram: PEEK’s superior strength-to-weight ratio means that it can provide strength comparable to metal while being lighter, which is particularly beneficial in dental applications where weight and comfort are crucial.

PEEK offers a combination of aesthetic, strength, accuracy, and comfort advantages, making it an increasingly popular choice in dental prosthetics. Its use reflects a broader trend in dentistry towards utilizing advanced materials and digital manufacturing techniques for better patient outcomes.
